A 40 year-old male, who is a five-year constable with the Regina Police Service, has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily harm following a seven-month investigation into an event on May 7, 2012. The assault is alleged to have occurred while the police officer was on-duty. This notice is being issued in accordance with past practice of the Regina Police Service, consistent with the Service’s commitment to public accountability.
On May 8, 2012, a complaint was received by the Regina Police Service alleging that a 44 year-old male was the victim of an assault by a police officer. It was alleged the assault occurred while the male was being taken into custody the day before (May 7, 2012). As soon as the allegation was received the officer was re-assigned to duties within Police Service Headquarters, pending the outcome of the investigation, conducted by the Provincial Complaints Commission. As of December 18, the investigation into this allegation resulted in a charge of Assault Causing Bodily Harm against the officer making the arrest.
Forty year-old Robert K. POWER, DOB: 1972-06-27, of Regina, is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code. POWER will make his first court appearance on the charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on January 17, 2013. In terms of the administrative process, POWER has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with the provisions of The Police Act, 1990, with a hearing to be held within 30 days.
