From the Regina Police Service facebook page:
We are deeply saddened by the nature of the comments and discussion which have been taking place on our facebook page in the past 24 hours. What was once a place for respectful open communication with our community has been trampled on by people who neither live in our city, nor our province, some don’t even live in Canada. We refuse to be a platform for people to spew hatred, profanity and the promotion of violence. We can only be responsible for our municipality and can not answer to accusations against police services not associated with the Regina Police Service. We see no other option but to temporarily remove this page. We will maintain our website as well as our twitter feed.It is incredibly unfortunate that it has come to this, but the actions of a few have made this space unsafe for Regina citizens. Our goal has always been to promote and maintain a safe community both in real life and online.
Since we are unable to ensure that only our community members are posting and that the conversation remains civil and free of profanity, hate speech and the promotion of violence, we must remove this page for the time being until we have more resources or a more in depth policy in place.
We launched this page in hopes that comments, concerns, ideas, and questions could be exchanged in a respectful manner. As always, we support your right to express opinions, even dissenting ones. We do require that to be done without profanity, hate speech, or posts inciting violence. This just doesn’t seem possible at the moment.
As always, if you have a complaint or a report of crime, please phone them in to us at 306-777-6500. In an emergency, dial 911.
Thank you.
