Investigation continues into a firearm-related incident that resulted in a high-risk traffic stop on a busy Regina street yesterday afternoon.
At about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, police were called to Hastings Crescent in the northwest part of the city after a report that three males were observed placing a long-barrelled firearm into a vehicle, first into the back seat and then into the trunk, before leaving in the vehicle. Police in the area were able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the area of McCarthy Boulevard and 7th Avenue North. Traffic in the area was temporarily diverted and three males; two 17 year-olds and an 18 year-old; were taken into custody without incident. A shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle, as well as ammunition. Two of the males were released without charge, pending further investigation. A third was taken into custody on a Traffic Safety Act warrant and released on an officer’s recognizance to appear in Traffic Court, June 4, 2014, to answer to the TSA charge. The shotgun and ammunition were seized as part of the investigation.
The matter is still under investigation. There are no other details for release at this time.
