A 50 year-old male, who was the victim of a serious assault earlier this week, has died in hospital. Police are now considering this case to be Regina’s fourth homicide of 2014.
On Thursday, July 17, 2014, at about 3:18 a.m., police were dispatched to a Regina hospital for a report of a male who had entered the Emergency Room with life-threatening injuries. Police began an investigation into the circumstances leading up this event which continued through Thursday and today, with the involvement of the RPS Major Crimes Unit.
At 8:10 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014, police received confirmation from the hospital that the male victim was deceased. The case has been re-categorized as a homicide investigation and will now be carried out in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. The deceased person’s name will not be released at this time.
