The Regina Police Service Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is conducting regular monthly training in Regina today (Wednesday, July 9, 2014) and wishes to advise the public of the specific locations involved so as not to cause any unnecessary alarm.
The team will be practicing at the following locations – with the permission of the owners of the properties:
- 1040 Retallack Street
- 1317 Retallack Street
- 1029 Robinson Street
- 1052 Rae Street
These locations were chosen because they are vacant at this time and the owners were willing to allow the team to train there. There are no school playgrounds in the area. The residents of neighbouring houses have been advised of the training.
Residents of the area will notice police vehicles, including a large Tactical Armoured Vehicle, or TAV, as well as police members in SWAT uniform . All of the necessary safety checks have been performed on equipment and there is no live ammunition involved in this training. The officers will be training until approximately 8:00 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Other than the sight of police officers training at these locations, there should be no disruption to the usual everyday activity and traffic flow in the area.
