Two Regina males have been charged with a total of seven offences following an incident in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17, 2014, in which a police officer was very nearly struck by a suspect vehicle.
On Sunday, August 17, 2014, at approximately 12:05 a.m. police attempted to stop a Ford F150 truck, the occupants of which had been in a verbal altercation, intimidating a pedestrian. The truck took off on 8th Avenue toward Elphinstone Street. A police officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, by activating emergency equipment. Before the officer was able to exit his vehicle, it’s alleged the driver of the truck backed up intentionally, striking the police vehicle, setting off its airbags. The impact caused an injury to the officer’s wrist. The truck then drove north on Elphinstone Street at a high rate of speed, breaking thorough construction signs, striking barriers at 4th Avenue and, one block further north, striking a light standard, breaking off the steel poles. Both occupants of the truck fled on foot, but were apprehended within a block. Further investigation led to charges against both males.
