Three 16 year-old males have been charged in connection with two street robberies that occurred in Regina yesterday evening.
On Saturday, March 7, 2015, just after 10:00 p.m., police were advised of a street robbery that had occurred in the 1500 block of Halifax Street. The victim, a 25 year-old female, described being confronted by three suspects, one of whom was carrying a baseball bat. The victim’s purse was stolen from her and the suspects fled. A police search of the area was negative. The victim was not physically hurt in this incident. The second incident occurred on Sunday, March 8th, at approximately 5:47 p.m. Police were dispatched to the area of the 1200 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. The victim, an 18 year-old female was walking when she was approached by three male youths, one of whom was carrying what appeared to be a machete. It’s alleged the males threatened the victim with the machete, stole her purse from her and fled on foot. As police were responding to the victim’s location, another police car in the area spotted two males, running in the area of the 2000 block of Toronto Street. The males matched the description of two of the suspects, as given by the victim. A third male suspect was located at a house in the same block. Police recovered items belonging to the victim of the March 7th robbery in the house. Subsequent investigation led to charges against all three individuals.
The male youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. In connection to the March 8th robbery, all three are jointly charged with: Armed Robbery [343(d) CC]; Disguise with Intent [351(2) CC]. Accused #1 is also charged with: two charges of Fail to Comply [137 YCJA]. In connection to the March 7th Robbery, Accused #1 also faces a total of five charges: Armed Robbery [343(d) CC]; Disguise With Intent [351(2) CC]; Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 [355(a) CC]; and two charges of Fail to Comply [137 YCJA]. All three accused made their first court appearances in Youth Court this morning, Monday, March 9, 2015, at 9:30 a.m.
