Two adults, a 46 year-old male and a 42 year-old female are facing a total of thirteen charges in connection with an investigation into the theft and trafficking of prescription medications. As part of the same investigation, a 17 year-old faces a single drug possession charge.
Throughout the month of April, the Regina Integrated Drug Enforcement Street Team has been investigating numerous thefts from at a pharmacy in the 4100 block of Albert Street. Through investigation, officers identified a viable suspect and continued to gather evidence. On April 25, 2015, as part of this investigation, a traffic stop was conducted by Patrol members on a vehicle leaving the store at approximately 6:00 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 46 year-old male, was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed several bottles of prescription medication containing, in total, more than 600 pills, including Kadian (morphine) Hydromorphone, and a quantity of Methamphetamine. A CDSA search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s home in the 2900 block of Queen Street. A search of the house revealed approximately 350 more pills, including Diazepam, Lorazepam, Dilantin and Cyclobenzaprine. Two stolen motorcycles were also recovered in the search, as well as small quantities of cannabis resin and marihuana. A 42 year-old female and a 17 year-old male youth were also arrested at this time.
Forty-six year-old Kenneth Darin ORCHIN, DOB: 1969-04-07, of Regina, has been charged with two charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (morphine, hydropmorphone) [5(2) CDSA]; Theft over $5,000 (various prescriptions) [334(a) CC]; three charges of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 [355(b) CC]; and three charges of Possession of a Scheduled Substance (methamphetamine, marihuana, codeine) [4(1) CDSA].
Forty-two year-old Stacey Ann ORCHIN, DOB: 1972-08-22, of Regina, has been charged with two charges of Possession of a Scheduled Substance (marihuana, codeine) [4(1) CDSA; and two charges of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 [355(b) CC].
Both Kenneth ORCHIN and Stacey ORCHIN made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9;30 a.m. today, Monday, April 27, 2015.
The 17 year-old, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with Possession of a Scheduled Substance (cannabis resin) [4(1) CDSA]. The youth was released on a Recognizance to appear in Youth Court on June 25, 2015.
