On April 13, 2015, police were called to the 1100 block of Garnet Street for the report of a domestic assault. A female called to report that a male had struck her. When police arrived, they were met by the caller, a 24 year-old woman, who did not want them to come inside. Police explained the need to come in and ensure everyone’s safety in a call. The female allowed entry into the residence, where the male, a 27 year-old man, was found inside. Police were alarmed by conditions in the household and believed it to be an unfit environment. Police located a nine month-old boy who was in the adult’s care. Police also located a five year-old child who was locked in a bedroom and appeared to be malnourished.
The 27 year-old male was arrested and charged with Assault [266 CC]. EMS attended and both children were taken to hospital and later moved into the care of appropriate agencies. The two adults will not be named in this instance to protect the identities of the children involved.
Further investigation into the matter led to charges against the 27 year-old male and the 24 year-old female. On May 20th, 2015, at approximately 1400 hours, the two adults were arrested and both were charged with Causing Bodily Harm [269 CC] and Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm [221 CC]. They made their first appearance in court on these charges yesterday, June 11th, 2015.
