The Regina Police Service is encouraging Regina residents to be a little more attentive than usual when it comes to safeguarding their vehicles. In recent weeks, police have seen an increase in the thefts of certain makes of vehicles.
Last month, in June, there were eleven Honda vehicles stolen in the city of Regina and this month (up to today) 12 have been stolen.
To put the issue into better perspective, the average number of Hondas vehicles stolen per year in Regina in the past three years (year-to-date) is 14. So far in 2015, there have been 36 Hondas stolen. In many of these cases, it appears the auto thieves have found a way to enter the vehicles in spite of the fact that owners had their vehicles locked.
It is more important than ever for residents to ensure that their vehicles are locked and spare sets of keys removed from the vehicle.
As always, anyone who notes suspicious activity should call police at 306-777-6500. Anyone who sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1.
