Two female youths, ages 15 and 16, face charges in connection with an incident this morning in which 16 parked vehicles were struck by a stolen truck, occupied by the teens.
Several police units were dispatched at approximately 5:30 a.m. today (Tuesday, October 6, 2015) for a report of a hit and run in progress in the area of Athol street and 13th Avenue. Police arrived on scene and found a truck that had struck another vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle had fled by the time police arrived, but investigation revealed that 16 vehicles had been struck in the same manner. An eye witness to this event, managed to detain two of the individuals seen running from the truck. A third suspect, believed to be a male, fled toward Garnet Street and was not located in the initial area search. One of the suspects, a 15 year-old girl had some minor injuries from a small cut and was transported to hospital for treatment. The 16 year-old female was arrested. Investigation into this incident confirmed that the truck was stolen. The two suspects were subsequently charged.
The two teens cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The 15 year-old female has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property (truck) over $5000, section 355(a) CC. The 16 year-old female has been charged with sixteen (16) charges of Fail to Remain at Scene of Accident (Hit and Run), section 252(1) CC; Possession of Stolen Property (truck) over $5000, section 355(a) CC; Exceed .08, section 253(1)(b) CC; Impaired Driving, section 253(1)(a) CC. Both accused were released on a JP Undertaking and will appear in Youth Court on November 24, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.
