AdvisoryThreats, Harassment & Extortion

A Secure-the-Building protocol enacted at two Regina High Schools earlier today, has been lifted. Investigation is continuing into the allegations of a threat issued through social media. Regina Police have a 17 year-old male in custody.

This investigation began on Monday morning, January 11, 2016, when police received information that a student at Balfour High School had received a possible threat through social media. Investigators were assigned to determine the identity of the sender. At the same time, School Resource Officers were present at both Balfour Collegiate and Miller Comprehensive, as the schools enacted their Secure-the-Building processes. As the name suggests, this is a situation whereby all outside doors are locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is monitored by designated school staff until Secure-the-Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building is at the front doors only, with police and school administration monitoring. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.

This investigation is ongoing. There may be charges pending the outcome of the investigation. More details will be released when they are available. As with any investigation, anyone who has information is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
