Occupants of a Regina downtown building have been advised that they can return to business after an evacuation earlier today following an apparent gas leak in an alley on the 1800 block of Hamilton.
At approximately 10:12 a.m., October 18, 2016, Regina Police Service, Regina Fire and Protective Services, and other emergency responders were dispatched to the 1800 block of Hamilton Street after the report of a gas leak. A vehicle had struck a gas line in the alley, causing a gas leak. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic were diverted from the area and one building was evacuated. SaskPower and SaskEnergy crew members also attended, and at approximately 11:25 a.m., the gas leak was contained. Police advised the occupants of the building that they could return to their business and vehicle and pedestrian traffic was resumed.
The driver of the vehicle in this incident, a male in his thirties, was not injured, and is charged with “Drive without Due Care and Attention” [213(1) – The Traffic Safety Act].
