On October 14, 2016, at 5:53 a.m., police in the area of Albert Street and 4th Avenue attended to a motor vehicle accident. A northbound car had proceeded through the red light and collided with a westbound truck in the intersection of Albert Street and 4th Avenue.
The driver, a 30 year-old male, and two passengers, a 26 year-old male and an unknown female, exited the car and fled. Police pursued and apprehended both males, who were treated by EMS and taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. The female has not been apprehended and has not yet been identified.
A small amount of methamphetamine was found on the 30 year-old male. A firearm, ammunition, and a machete were recovered from the car. The two males were subsequently charged.
The driver of the truck, a 25 year-old male, had minor injuries and did not require EMS.
Thirty year-old Jason Lloyd MORIN (DOB: 1985/11/07), of Regina, is charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle [CC 249(1)(A)];
- Possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to prohibition order [CC 117.01(1)]; x 2
- Failure to stop at scene of accident involving bodily harm [CC 252(1.2)];
- Obstruction [CC 129(A)];
- Careless use of a firearm [CC 86(1)];
- Carrying a concealed weapon [CC 90];
- Possession of a firearm knowing it is possession is unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device [CC 94(1)(a)(i)];
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition [CC 95(1)(A)];
- Possession of a weapon [CC 88];
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime [CC 96(1)];
- Failure to comply [CC 145(3)];
- Assault with intent to steal [CC 343(C)];
- Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) [CDSA 4(1)];
- Driving while impaired [CT 253(1)(A)];
Twenty-six year-old Michael Riley OBEY (DOB 1989/12/04), of Regina, is charged with:
- Careless use of a firearm [CC 86(1)];
- Carrying a concealed weapon [CC 90];
- Possession of a firearm knowing it is possession is unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device [CC 94(1)(a)(i)];
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition [CC 95(1)(A)];
- Possession of a weapon [CC 88];
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime [CC 96(1)];
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order [CC 117.01(1)]; x 2
- Possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order [CC 117.01(1)]; x 2
- Resist Arrest [CC 129(A)];
- Obstruction [CC 129(A)]
The two charged are scheduled to make their first appearance in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016.
