A 23 year-old male is facing numerous drug-related charges and other charges as the result of an investigation that started with a traffic stop.

On Sunday, April 30, 2017, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a Regina Police Service Traffic Safety member was at the corner of Arcola Street and Victoria Avenue when he heard a loud scraping sound approaching.  He saw a vehicle approaching which had no rubber on the front wheels and no front or rear lights.  The officer engaged emergency equipment and pulled the vehicle over in the 400 block of Victoria Avenue.  The driver of the car got out of his vehicle and would not comply with the officer’s repeated directions to stop and put his hands behind his back.  The officer arrested the male for suspected impaired driving and an assisting officer located a backpack filled with narcotics in the back seat of the suspect’s car.  Other items seized were cellphones, some cash and bear spray.  Subsequent investigation led to a number of charges against this individual.

Twenty-three year-old Albert MARTIN, DOB: 1993-09-11, of Regina, is facing nine charges:
–        Impaired Driving, s. 253(1)(a) CC;
–        Breach of Probation, s. 733.1(1) CC;
–        Carrying a Concealed Weapon (bear spray), s. 90 CC;
–        4 x Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, s. 5(2) CDSA;
–        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, s. 355(a) CC; and
–        Refusal to Provide Breath Sample, s. 254(3)(a) CC.

MARTIN made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017.
