A 15 year-old male youth is facing mischief and weapons-related charges after an incident last night in which a house was shot at, leaving a hole in a window.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, police were dispatched to a residence on Read Avenue for a report that someone had just shot at a house, damaging a front window. Police arrived and spoke to the 67 year-old resident, who was in the house at the time of the incident. Officers determined the projectile was likely a BB or pellet. The projectile did not break through the inner pane of the window, so there were no injuries. Further investigation led police to identify a potential suspect and then seize two air rifles and a pellet pistol, as well as a bag of BBs. The suspect is a 15 year-old male. He was transported to police headquarters, charged and then released on an Officer Undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
The youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with Intentionally Discharging a Firearm into a Place in a Reckless Manner [244.2(1)(a) CC] and Mischief Under $5,000 [430(1)(a) CC]. The accused will make his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m., September 12, 2017.
