Several people are in police custody after the execution of a search warrant in the 2000 block Princess Street on Thursday, November 16, 2017 (today).
As part of an ongoing investigation, police identified a location in the 2000 block of Princess Street as a site of criminal activity and obtained a search warrant for the premises. Police also believed firearms would be present at that location, making the execution of the search warrant a high-risk operation. For that reason, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was authorized, as well as Crisis Negotiators. As of 4:30 p.m., several people exited the house and were taken safely into police custody. There are no details yet as to how many were taken into custody and what consequence they may face. The investigation, including the execution of the search warrant, is ongoing.
As with another incident today involving the potential for firearms, traffic flow was restricted in the area of 13th Avenue, and Princess and Queen Streets. A school in the neighbourhood was placed in a secure-the-building protocol as a precaution and, at the end of the school day, the staff and school resource officers provided oversight for dismissal of students.
Investigation into this matter is ongoing. The Regina Police Service thanks the members of the public for their patience and cooperation.
