The Regina Police Service is investigating a potential threat this morning at F.W. Johnson Collegiate, which was placed in Secure-the-Building earlier today, and has since been lifted.
Today, Thursday, April 12, 2018, police received statements that students had been previously threatened by another student at the school with threats of a firearm assault, which the student had indicated would occur today. It was reported that the 15 year-old student that had made the threats was not in attendance at school.
At approximately 10:10 am this morning, the school was placed into Secure-the-Building mode. Shortly after, police arrived at the suspect’s home, where he was located and arrested. No firearms were found or recovered. The Secure-the-Building was lifted at approximately 11:15 am.
This investigation is ongoing. As with any investigation, if anyone has additional information to offer to police, he or she is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500, or call Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
* It is important to understand the terminology and actions taken by authorities. “Secure the Building”: Is a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
