A 15 year-old male has been charged in relation to threats uttered to fellow students, which led to a Secure-The-Building incident at a school on the 400 block of Fines Drive on Thursday.
On Thursday, April 12, 2018, police received statements that students had been previously threatened by another student at the school with threats of a firearm assault. It was reported that the 15 year-old student that had made the threats was not in attendance at school on the day the assault was to occur. Shortly after the school was placed into Secure-the-Building mode, police arrived at the suspect’s home, where he was located and arrested. No firearms were recovered.
A 15 year-old Regina male, who will not be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with uttering threats [CC 264.1(1)(A)].
The youth makes his first appearance in Provincial Youth Court on these charges on May 24, 2018.
* It is important to understand the terminology and actions taken by authorities. “Secure the Building”: Is a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
