The Regina Police Service is continuing to stress the importance of practicing proactive crime prevention strategies when it comes to the issue of theft of auto.
From July 1 to July 17, 2018, there have been 85 theft of autos reported in the city. Of those 85 stolen vehicles, 23 were Honda and Acura models. Analyzing stolen automobile statistics over the past three year, the data suggests that Honda and Acura models between the years of 1990 and 2005 are consistently within the top five stolen vehicles and are susceptible to theft. Owners of Hondas and Acuras are encouraged to step up their crime prevention game in order to secure their vehicles.
The Regina Police Service is asking the public to adopt the following auto-theft prevention strategies for drivers of all vehicles:
- Use a steering-wheel immobilization device, such as The Club, which can combat the use of an altered key used to start the ignition.
- Always lock your vehicle doors.
- Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.
- Remove valuables from your vehicle, including spare keys or key-fobs, and garage door openers.
Adopting these auto theft prevention strategies take only minutes and can help drive down the rate of auto theft. If you see suspicious activity, give us a call at 306-777-6500. In an emergency, or if you see a crime in progress, call 911.
