A male youth will be charged in connection with a single-vehicle collision that occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018, in the area of the 800 block Broad Street North. Information received in the call indicated that a vehicle had just crashed into a tree on that block.
Police, EMS and Regina Fire and Protective Services arrived at the scene and determined that all five occupants of the vehicle: four 15 year-olds and a 17 year-old, were accounted for. EMS transported all five individuals to hospital for assessment and treatment. Firefighters put out a fire that was starting to form in the vehicle, and police gathered information to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The potential for serious injury in this collision prompted supervisors to call out Forensic Identification investigators, as well as Collision Reconstruction specialists, to assist patrol members. Fortunately, most of the injuries to the occupants are relatively minor, although one passenger suffered more serious injuries.
The 17 year-old male driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest and will be charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm [249(3) CC]. The youth was released on an Appearance Notice and will make his first appearance in Youth Court on October 25, 2018. Investigation into the collision, including follow-up with the victims, will continue. Anyone who has information to add to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
