A Regina Police Service member discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, in the apprehension and arrest of a twenty-two year-old Regina male on Thursday October 4, 2018. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On October 4, 2018, at approximately 5:45 pm, Regina Police Service members attended to a residence in the 1400 block of McTavish Street to arrest a male on warrants. Officers attempted to arrest the male but he became aggressive and would not listen to police commands. A police officer discharged a CEW and the male was successfully taken into custody after a brief physical altercation.
The male was assessed by EMS at the scene and then transported to Regina Police Service Detention. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and charges are pending
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee, a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission – an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
