A death investigation, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, begun on Sunday, October 14, 2018, has become a homicide investigation. The deceased person is a 16 year-old female. This is the fifth homicide in Regina in 2018. A male youth has been charged in connection with this homicide.
Police were dispatched at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 14th to a house in the 900 block of Cameron Street, for a 9-1-1 call initially reported as a weapons offence. Police and EMS responded to that location and located an injured female. EMS provided emergency medical treatment, assisted by Regina Fire and Protective Services. In spite of these efforts, the female was declared deceased at the scene. The Coroner was requested to the scene as well as members of the Forensic Identification Unit. Police detained numerous individuals in the house, as well as locating several people who had left the residence by the time police arrived. Investigation into this event led police to identify, locate and arrest a 15 year-old male suspect. The 16 year-old victim has been identified and her family has been notified of her death. The name of the deceased person will not be released by the Regina Police Service as per section 111(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the parents’ request.
A 15 year-old male was arrested on October 14, 2018 and now faces charges in connection with this homicide. The youth cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is charged with Second-degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The youth made his first court appearance in Youth Court on Monday, October 15, 2018. This investigation is ongoing.
