Two males have been charged after an incident on Tuesday, which involved Regina Police Emergency Services members.
On January 22, 2019, the Regina Police Street Gang Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant on the 1300 block of Athol Street as part of an investigation into drug trafficking within Regina. The enforcement was supported by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
One suspect was observed by police leaving the residence in a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 33 year-old male suspect. In this arrest, officers recovered a weapon, ammunition and drugs. SWAT executed the warrant on the residence and two males and one female exited. Firearms, weapons, and ammunition were collected as a result of the search. One male suspect from the residence, a 48 year-old, was arrested and charged.
Forty-eight year-old Jason David HENDERSON, of Regina, is charged with:
- 18 x Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order [117.01(1) CC];
- 2 x Possession of a weapon [88 CC];
- 2 x Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime [96(1) CC];
- 2 x Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized [92(1) CC];
- 2 x Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition [86(1) CC]; and
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm [91(1) CC].
Thirty-three year-old David John TANISKISHAYINEW, of Regina, is charged with:
- 2 x Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition [86(1) CC];
- 2 x Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order [117.01(1) CC];
- 2 x Possession of a scheduled substance [4(1) CDSA];
- Carrying a concealed weapon [90 CC];
- Fail to comply with undertaking [145(3) CC];
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized [92(1) CC];
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition [95(1)(A) CC];
- Possession of a weapon [88 CC];
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm [91(1) CC].
HENDERSON and TANISKISHAYINEW appeared in Provincial Court for these charges on January 23, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
