Investigation by the Regina Police Service has determined that the incident initially reported to police on July 23, 2019, as an abduction, which was the subject of previous news releases, has been investigated, and despite initial report, is not a case of abduction.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at approximately 12:03 p.m., police were dispatched to a parking lot on the 400 block of Albert Street North for a report of abduction. The report indicated that a vehicle with a single occupant pulled into a parking lot where a small black car pulled up behind it. A suspect exited the black car holding what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at driver of the vehicle. It appeared that the driver exited the vehicle and was forced into the small black car with the suspect. Both vehicles then drove away.
Police investigation identified the apparent abduction victim, a 24 year-old male. Police have had contact with him and determined he was safe. It was also determined that the male was not actually abducted, but robbed at gunpoint. The robbery in this instance is still under investigation, and charges have not been laid.
