A 15 year-old male youth is facing a weapon charge after an incident early Saturday evening.
On Saturday November 30, 2019, at approximately 18:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of 2100 block 11 Avenue for a report of a weapon offence. The complainant stated that she was leaving a business as it was closing and three males attempted to enter the business. When she informed the three males they could not enter, one of them showed her what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband. The victim left and went into another business in the 1800 block of 11 Avenue. Moments later the three males entered into this same business in the 1800 block of 11 Avenue.
Police attended to the location of the second mentioned business and located the three males. The suspect who was believed to have a firearm in his possession was identified to police. The male youth was apprehended without incident. The investigation revealed the suspect was concealing a canister of bear spray in his waistband and that no firearm was involved. No one suffered any physical injury from this incident.
The 15 year-old male youth of Regina, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon [Sec 91(2)CC] in relation to this incident.
The youth will appear in Youth Provincial Court on January 20, 2020.
The other two males were not charged in relation to this incident.
