The Regina Police Service has arrested and charged a second person in connection with a January 2020 homicide case. The victim, 49 year-old Rodney Troy RUBERRY, was discovered, critically injured, on January 24, 2020, and later died in hospital. This second accused individual is a 17 year-old Regina male. A 27 year-old male was charged in this case on February 13th.
On Friday, January 24, 2020, at approximately 3:19 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Dewdney Avenue for a property check after a witness saw individuals running from the house. When police arrived, they discovered a male who was in medical distress and requested EMS. The male was transported to hospital and at approximately 4:28 p.m., he was pronounced deceased. Officers maintained security of the scene and requested additional resources: the Coroner, as well as Major Crimes and Forensic Identification investigators. The investigation, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service began and on January 27th, this death investigation was deemed a homicide case. Continued investigation led to the arrest, on February 21, 2020, of a 17 year-old male. This matter is still under investigation.
A 17 year-old male youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Manslaughter [236(a) CC].
The youth will make his first court appearance on this charge in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020.
