Six people – two adults and four young persons – are facing charges in connection with the sixth homicide in Regina in 2020.
This investigation began on Thursday, April 23rd at approximately 12:40 p.m., when police units were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Princess Street. The initial dispatch was categorized as an injured or sick person. Police arrived and located a male, who appeared to be deceased. EMS arrived and confirmed the death. Patrol members secured the scene, then requested the additional resources of the Forensic Identification and Major Crimes units, as well as the Coroner. The identity of the deceased has been confirmed: the victim is a 16 year-old youth in a case where other young persons are accused. His name cannot be released by police. His next-of-kin have been notified of his death. The Coroner ordered an autopsy, which was performed last Friday, April 24, 2020. Continued investigation into this death resulted in the arrest of six individuals who were subsequently arrested and charged. Two of the accused are adults and four are young persons.
Eighteen year-old Arden PAQUACHAN, of Regina, was arrested on Friday, April 24th and charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235 of the Criminal Code.
Eighteen year-old Brandon Shayden Lee CHARETTE (also known as HAPA), of Regina, was arrested on April 26th and charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235 of the Criminal Code as well as a breach.
The remaining four accused are all young persons who cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are all males: two are 15 years old; one is 16 and the fourth is 17 years old. All were arrested on Sunday, April 26th. They are all charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235 of the Criminal Code. Two of the youths are also facing breach charges.
The adult males accused will both make their first court appearance on their charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2020.
