Two adults: a male and female, are facing numerous charges after an incident in which police deployed spike belts on a suspicious vehicle.
On Monday April 6, 2020, at approximately 3:41 a.m., police were dispatched to Montreal Crescent and Broadway Avenue for a report of a suspicious vehicle, which had earlier evaded police. Police attempted to stop a blue Nissan Murano, but the vehicle evaded police, driving at high speeds and disobeying traffic signals. Officers in the area of 1st Avenue and McCarthy Boulevard were able to deploy a spike belt, but the vehicle continued to evade. A second spike belt was deployed on Stockton Street and, shortly after, officers were able to conduct a high-risk traffic stop. A male driver and female passenger were arrested from the vehicle. Bear spray, a knife, and crystal meth were seized in the arrests. The male driver was found to be on a Canada-wide prohibition from driving.
