The Regina Police Service is asking the public’s assistance with information regarding a series of thefts of commemorative bronze plaques in the city. These items have been taken from parks, churches, and heritage sites in Regina. It is possible that thieves are stealing these plaques for their scrap metal value.
In total, there have been 12 such thefts reported to the Regina Police Service. The earliest reported incident occurred in mid to late February, where a bronze plaque was taken from the 2400 block of Elphinstone. Since then, other instances of plaque theft have been reported in south and south-central areas of Regina. Investigators believe thieves are taking advantage of the fact that people are not able to congregate in any location, including parks, churches and heritage sites. The theft of these plaques may go unnoticed for days before they are reported to police.
If you have any information regarding these thefts, please call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
