A 20 year-old Regina male, who was initially charged in the alleged Aggravated Assault of a one year-old female child, is now facing a charge of Manslaughter. This development comes as the result of the death of the victim and further investigation by police and other authorities. This is the eleventh homicide in Regina in 2020.
This investigation began on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, when patrol members were dispatched, at 5:24 p.m., to hospital for a report that EMS was en route to the hospital with a critically-injured, one year-old, female child. EMS advised that the child’s injuries were suspected to be the result of physical abuse. Investigation by the Regina Children’s Justice Centre* (RCJC) resulted, initially, in a charge of Aggravated Assault against a 20 year-old male. Investigators continued to monitor the condition of the victim in hospital. On Friday, October 9, 2020, police were notified that the infant girl had died in hospital. Further investigation by the RCJC and Major Crimes followed, working with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the Crown to determine next steps. On Monday, October 19, 2020, the same accused was re-arrested by police and charged with Manslaughter. The name of the deceased child will not be released at this time, pending permission from the girl’s parents.
Twenty year-old Bailey Carter Lance PEEPEETCH, of Regina, is charged with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code. PEEPEETCH will make his first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
