A 32 year-old male is facing charges in connection with a dangerous driving incident in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 21, 2020.
At approximately 3:50 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020, police were dispatched to the area of 7 th Avenue and Robinson Street. An officer had a suspicious vehicle in view that was being driven in a dangerous manner. The patrol members were able to maintain view of the vehicle as it continued at a high rate of speed and disobeyed several traffic laws.
The vehicle exited eastbound onto ring road from Albert Street where police used a spike belt in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver continued to evade police however a short distance away, the vehicle became stuck in a field and the driver fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody. The male was found to be wearing a protective
vest and in possession of a knife. A search incident to arrest resulted in the discovery of illicit drugs and several weapons including an expandable baton, a cross bow and a machete.
Thirty-two-year-old Anthony William AKAN is charged with:
-Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance [320.13(1) CC]
-2 X Possession of a Weapon [88 CC]
-Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking [CDSA 5(2)].
AKAN is scheduled to make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020.
