A 19 year-old male is facing charges in connection with an incident that led to a police presence in the 1400 block of Angus Street yesterday (Tuesday) evening.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, a police patrol unit was dispatched to assist Regina Fire and Protective Services and EMS at an apartment residence in the 1400 block of Angus Street. The initial information indicated a fire alarm was going off in one of the apartments and there was smoke emerging from a doorway. Upon further investigation it appeared the “potential fire” was a pot of food forgotten and burning on a stove. The resident of the apartment was unharmed. Emergency personnel who entered the apartment alerted police to the presence of suspicious looking materials. This led to police arresting the male resident and obtaining a search warrant for the premises. The process of securing the premises and executing the search warrant meant for an extended police presence on the 1400 block of Angus Street until well into the evening. Subsequent investigation led to charges against the 19 year-old male.
Nineteen year-old Austin DOERKSEN-BYE, of Regina, is charged with:
- Explosives Making or Possession Of Substance [CC 81 (1)(Dii)];
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary To Prohibition Order [CC 117.01 (1)];
- Fail To Comply With Disposition [YCJA 137].
DOERKSEN-BYE will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 18, 2020).
