A 38 year-old Regina male was arrested and charged after a police encounter with a suspicious vehicle last night.
Just thirty minutes after midnight on Monday, January 18, 2021, patrol members southbound on Lewvan Drive, noticed a black Oldsmobile Alero on the road ahead. Their attention was piqued by the fact that the car was travelling at 40 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. In our experience, this can sometimes signal a mechanical issue with the vehicle, or it may be a suspected impaired driver, driving slowly to make up for delayed reaction time. The officers noted that there was a male driver and a female passenger in the vehicle. They pulled up behind and activated emergency equipment, but the vehicle accelerated away. The officers pulled over and reported that the vehicle had evaded. They also gave a description of the vehicle, which had a silver passenger-side door on an all-black exterior. A short time later, another officer spotted the unique-looking vehicle northbound on Albert Street and a second attempt was made to stop the vehicle. Again, it evaded police. The vehicle was eventually stopped and both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without further incident. The male driver was found to have outstanding warrants for evading police, possession of stolen property, and possession of a weapon. The warrants were executed and the driver was also charged in connection with this incident.
Thirty-eight year-old Daniel Alfred St CYR, of Regina, is charged with Flight From Peace Officer [320.17 CC]. St CYR made his first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (today), January 18, 2021.
