An investigation into an incident of uttering threats has resulted in a charge against a 12 year-old boy.
On Friday, February 5, 2021, a School Resource Officer received a call from a principal reporting that a student at a school in the Al Ritchie neighbourhood was being threatened. A number of officers were dispatched as part of the investigation and it was quickly determined that the victim was not in imminent danger and the suspect was not at the school in question. Further investigation determined the threats had been made on social media and included images of the suspect with what appeared to be a firearm. The investigation revealed the victim and suspect know each other. Police were able to locate the suspect at a different location and arrested him without incident. A search of the youth’s residence did not yield any firearms. The youth is now facing a criminal charge.
The 12 year-old male cannot be identified in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is charged with Uttering Threats, section 264.1(1)(a) CC. He will make his first court appearance in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021.
