A second person has been arrested and charged in connection with Regina’s eighth homicide of 2021. The victim was 33 year-old Jason BIRD. There is already one person charged in connection with this case. Now, as the result of continued investigation, a second individual has been charged.
This death investigation began on Thursday, July 15, 2021, just after 5:00 a.m., when members of the Regina Police Service were dispatched to the 800 block of Princess Street. An injured, adult male, later identified as Jason BIRD, was found at that location. Patrol officers provided first aid to the victim until EMS arrived. The victim was then transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. As the result of investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, assisted by other plainclothes and uniformed units, two individuals are now charged: one arrested on August 4th, and the second arrested on August 17, 2021.
Thirty-two year-old Okimaw Russell NIGHT-FOX, of Regina, is charged with:
- First-Degree Murder, section 235(1) CC; and
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, s. 117.01(1) CC.
NIGHT-FOX made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today: Wednesday, August 18, 2021. This investigation is ongoing.
