Two male youths: ages 14 and 16, are facing charges in connection with a business break and enter.
On September 12, 2021, at 2:11 a.m., police were dispatched to the 4900 block of Dewdney Avenue for a report of two unknown males inside a locked business. Police arrived and located two youths inside the store, as well as two bags containing store merchandise. One of the suspects was in possession of bear spray. Both males were arrested and charged.
The youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both the 14 year-old and 16 year-old are charged with Break and Enter with Intent to commit an indictable offence, s. 348(1)(a) CC. In addition, the 16 year-old is charged with:
- Possession of a weapon (bear spray) for a purpose dangerous to public peace, 88 CC; and
- Breach of release order, 145(5)(a) CC.
The 14 year-old was released on an undertaking to appear in Youth Court on October 26, 2021. The 16 year-old made his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021.
