Three adult females are charged after a report of dangerous driving which turned into an investigation into theft/shoplifting from a large retail store.
On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, just before 8:00 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the area of Lewvan Drive and Parliament Avenue for a report of dangerous driving. Police located the suspect vehicle nearby, in the parking lot of a retail store. The 29 year-old driver got out of the vehicle and was informed she would be getting a ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle while having a suspended license. As police were dealing with the driver, two women exited the store with two carts of merchandise. They were followed by employees who told police the women had passed all the checkout without offering any type of payment. One of the women got into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away but struck another vehicle instead. The three women were taken into custody without further incident and the items were returned to the store by police.
Thirty-eight year-old Charity Dawn BIRD-DEEGAN, 35 year-old Kayla Irene SEVERIGHT, and 29 year-old Leah Marie POITRAS are jointly charged with Theft Under $5,000, section 334(b) of the Criminal Code.
SEVERIGHT is also charged with Hit and Run, s. 320.16 CC.
Each of the three accused was released on an undertaking to appear in Provincial Court on January 27, 2022.
