Police investigation into a suspicious vehicle, last night (December 8th), led to the arrest of a 24 year-old Regina male and charges including Hit & Run, and Evade Police.
At approximately 8:53 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of Donald Street and Dewdney Avenue. Plain clothes officers in the area were able to obtain a license plate number. A patrol car tried to carry out a traffic stop near 3rd Avenue and Robinson Street, but the suspect vehicle accelerated away. Patrol members stopped, but unmarked units were able to observe the vehicle disobeying traffic signals and stop signs. The vehicle driver lost control near 7th Avenue and Connaught Street, hitting a parked car. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A police Canine team tracked the suspect and made the arrest. A search of the vehicle yielded a backpack containing parts of an air rifle, .22 calibre ammunition, and numerous vehicle keys.
Twenty-four year-old Shayne CHECKOWY, of Regina, is charged with:
- Breach of Release Order, s. 145(5)(a) CC;
- Flight from Peace Officer, s. 320.17 CC; and
- Failure to Stop After Accident, s. 320.16(1) CC.
CHECKOWY made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
