A 24 year-old female is facing charges relating to an alleged domestic assault and an alleged assault on a police officer.
On Friday, December 31, 2021, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Froom Crescent for a report of a domestic assault. The information received was that two adult females (sisters) were fighting. Police arrived and assessed the situation. One female age 21, had injuries consistent with a physical assault. The victim claimed the other female had also thrown a laptop computer at a wall, damaging the computer. As police were arresting the 24 year-old suspect for mischief and assault, it’s alleged she spit at one of the officers, hitting him in the forehead. The suspect was then charged with assaulting a peace officer. In instances such as these, police enact a protocol, which includes medical follow-up, in order to assess the health risk to the officer from this type of exposure and determine appropriate next steps.
The accused is related to the female victim of the alleged assault, so the Regina Police Service will not release her name, to avoid identifying the victim (against policy). The 24 year-old female is charged with:
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm, s. 267(b) CC;
- Mischief under $5,000, s. 430(4) CC; and
- Assault a Peace Officer, s. 270(1)(a) CC.
The accused was released on an undertaking to appear in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on February 28, 2022.
