Well, we might feel as if we’re done with Winter, but Winter is obviously not done with us…yet. The Regina Police Service is urging motorists to be extra careful out there on our roadways today. Already this morning, police have been dispatched to five collisions; two of these were around 8:00 a.m. in the area of Wascana Parkway and the Highway #1 Bypass.
If you can avoid driving today, hunker down at home and stay warm. Any out-of-town driving is discouraged. Weather and road conditions have made highway driving potentially treacherous. If you must travel long distances, check the Highway Hotline online, or call toll-free 1-888-335-7623.
For the rest of us, who may have to do short trips in the city:
- Give yourself lots of time to get to your destination. Slow down and drive for the road and weather conditions.
- Remember that the posted speed limit is a maximum only under ideal conditions. Today’s wind and snow make our road surfaces farm from ideal. Slow down!
- Clear snow off your windshield and other windows. Make sure your lights aren’t covered by snow, front and back. See and be seen.
- When out on the road, don’t follow too closely. Create a generous space between you and the vehicle you are following.
- Be patient and courteous
Keep the goal in mind…on a day like today, let’s get everyone home safely!
