A 30 year-old Regina male is facing weapons charges associated with an alleged assault on a female. This individual also faces a charge associated to the alleged possession of explosives.
On Sunday, June 5, 2022, at approximately 7:42 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Angus Street for a report of a male with a knife threatening harm to a female. Police arrived at the location and found a male matching the suspect description. He was taken into custody without incident. Police seized a knife and what initially appeared to be an improvised firearm. Further investigation led to consultation with a member of the Explosives Disposal Unit and evidence that the object was a potential explosive device. The male was subsequently charged.
Thirty year-old Murray Alvin Thomas STONECHILD, of Regina, is charged with:
- Unlawful Possession of Explosives, s. 82(1) CC;
- Possession of a Weapon (knife) for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace, s. 88 CC;
- Carrying Concealed Weapon (knife), s. 90 CC; and
- Assault with a Weapon, s. 26(a) CC.
STONECHILD made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022. Further investigation into this case led to a fifth charge: Manufacturing Explosives, s. 81(1)(d) CC.
