A second male youth has been charged with First-Degree Murder in connection with Regina’s most recent homicide. A 15 year-old male youth has already been charged in this case, on Thursday, June 30th.
This investigation began on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at approximately 2:20 a.m., when police received 9-1-1 calls requesting police to an alley in the 1200 block of Rae Street. When officers arrived, they found a deceased 14 year-old male in the alley, as well as an injured 32 year-old female, who was taken to hospital by EMS. Additional police resources (Forensic Identification and Major Crimes) and the Coroner were requested to take over the investigation. Investigation led to the arrest of a 17 year-old male late last week.
The Regina Police Service will not be releasing the identity of the deceased person. In a case where a homicide victim is a youth, and the individual accused is also a youth, police are prevented, by law, from releasing the identity of the victim. [Section 111(1) YCJA. See 111(2) for exception.]
The 17-year-old accused cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The 17 year-old male is charged with:
- First-Degree Murder, s. 235(1) CC;
- Assault With a Weapon, s. 267(a) CC;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, 94(1) CC;
The accused youth made his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. (today) Monday, July 4, 2022.
