Three Regina youths face charges after a firearms incident early this morning.
On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Edgar Street for the report of a weapons offence involving a firearm. Information received was that three male youths sprayed bear mace on dogs, and that one of the assailants had a gun.
Police arrived to learn that three young males passed a house on foot, where they sprayed the resident’s dogs with bear mace. When the resident followed them to confront them, one of the males pointed a firearm at her.
The three youths were located nearby, and identified as being in breach of release orders. One of the youths was found to be in possession of firearm ammunition and alcohol. A third male, who was identified as the one pointing a firearm, gave a false identity to police and was charged with obstruction in addition to pointing a firearm and possession of bear mace.
A witness observed one of the youths dropping a bag. A search of the bag yielded two firearms.
A fifteen year-old male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Point Firearm [CC 87];
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
- Obstruct Police Officer [CC 129(A)]; and
- Fail to Comply with Disposition [YCJA 137].
A sixteen year-old male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- 2 X Fail to Comply with Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)].
A second sixteen year-old male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Fail to Comply with Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)].
The three accused are scheduled to make their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court today, July 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
