A 43 year-old male is facing charges following an incident in which police officers deployed a CEW (Conducted Energy Weapons), commonly known as a Taser.
On Thursday, August 18, 2022, at approximately 22:30 p.m. police were dispatched to a business on the 4000 block of Rochdale Blvd for a report of an intoxicated male refusing to leave a business. The male left the business with police but became very agitated and confrontational with police a short time later. Police deployed a CEW which was effective in allowing police to gain control of the male safely. The male did not sustain injuries.
The police use of the CEW will be reviewed, as per policy, by the Regina Police Service Use of Force Committee, which reports uses of force on a quarterly basis to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
Upon further investigation, 43 year-old Gary CHAMRYK, of Regina, was charged with:
- Resist Arrest, s. 129(A) CC; and
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)]
CHAMRYK will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
