On October 2, 2022, shortly after 1:00 p.m., police were called to a break and enter in progress on the 600 block of 17th Avenue East. Information received was that a male was seen inside a garage, and when a resident approached, the male dropped his bag and ran.
While on route to the call, police received information that a suspicious male jumping fences was last seen in a yard on Portland Crescent.
Police attended to the area and located the male cutting through a back yard on the 2500 block of Lacon Street. The male was directed by police to stop several times, but the male continued to run. A canine officer then pursued the male on foot with a Police Service Dog, and the male continued running. The PSD was then released, and bit the male.
The male provided a false name to police, and was charged with obstruction. When the male was identified, he was found to be in breach of conditions of a release order. EMS attended and the male was treated for injuries sustained during the dog bite.
