With the spookiest day of the year on our doorstep, the Regina Police Service is reminding the public to celebrate safety this Halloween night. Keep these checklists in mind and share them with friends and family to ensure everyone can maximize the treats and reduce the tricks.
For the trick-or-treaters:
-Add some bright elements to your costume, use reflective tape and carry a flashlight.
-Stay in familiar neighbourhoods.
-Make a pre-planned route, and share that plan with a parent or guardian before you start.
-Stay on well-lit streets and only trick-or-treat at homes with their outdoor lights on.
-Walk on the sidewalks and be aware of cars; they may not be able to see you in the dark.
-Cross the street at crosswalks and always look both ways before walking.
-Have FUN!
For home and property owners:
-Lock the doors on your detached garages and sheds.
-Lock any vehicles parked on the street and in the driveway. Do not leave garage door openers in vehicles parked outside.
-If you aren’t home, turn on your alarm or motion activated lights.
-If you see suspicious behavior on your property or in your neighbourhood – report to police.
Halloween night has the potential to bring some ‘ghosts and goblins’ out who may be looking for mischief. We ask you take these few extra precautions to keep your home and your property safe.
If you see members of the Regina Police Service on patrol while you are out tonight, give us a wave! Please call police if you see a crime in progress or if you see someone in trouble who needs help. We witch you a safe and happy Halloween!
