The driver of a vehicle, who entered an active City of Regina construction site and drove into an excavation pit, is recovering from injury and is also facing a charge under the Traffic Safety Act.
At approximately, 1:45 p.m. on October 26, 2022, officers were called to a report of a vehicle that had driven into a large hole in the street. When they arrived, EMS and Fire were on scene along with City crews who had been on site repairing a water main. The male driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Investigation determined the driver ignored signage which indicated the road was closed for construction.
The driver has since been charged with:
- Failing to Obey the Instructions of any Traffic Control Device [TSA S208 (3)]
The Regina Police Service along with the City of Regina would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of obeying all road signage. Signs in construction zones contain important information to alert drivers of road work, traffic conditions and closures that are meant to protect workers and the public.
