On Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at approximately 6:35 p.m., police were dispatched to the Cornwall Centre on the 2100 block of 11th Avenue for a report of a weapons offence. Early information suggested that a victim was bear sprayed and assaulted.
When officers arrived, multiple suspects fled on foot and left the mall. With assistance from members of Cornwall Centre Security, police followed the suspects in a foot chase and arrested two male suspects on Saskatchewan Drive. In a search incident to arrest, officers recovered two bladed weapons. Meanwhile, other officers attended to the victim, a youth, who was treated by police on scene. As a result:
A fifteen year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
• Assault With a Weapon [CC 267 (A)];
• Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
• Carrying Concealed Weapon [CC 90].
A sixteen year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
• Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
• Assault With a Weapon [CC 267 (A)].
The youths will make their first court appearances on the charges in Provincial Youth Court on February 9, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.
