Two teens are facing charges after an incident yesterday morning outside a school in the 3300 block of 6th Avenue.
At approximately 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, members of the RPS Community Engagement Unit, who have an office inside a community center on the 3300 block of 6th Avenue, were notified that a group of three females had been shot at. Early information stated the victims were standing outside the school when a suspect shot at them from a vehicle. One victim was struck but was not physically injured. The school was put in lockdown for a brief time and multiple Patrol units and School Resource Officers were dispatched to the location.
As a result of investigation, police attended to a residence in the 800 block of Empress Street, where officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Police surrounded the residence and made verbal contact with the occupants inside. Two males were taken into police custody without incident. Two nearby schools were put into secure-the-building mode while police were on scene.
Ongoing police investigation determined the firearm used in the offence was a BB gun. As a result:
A 17 year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
- Discharge Air Gun or Pistol With Intent [CC 244.1 (A)];
- 2 X Assault With A Weapon [CC 267 (A)].
Eighteen year-old Kieran GIBSON, of Regina, has been charged with:
- Discharge Air Gun or Pistol With Intent [CC 244.1 (A)];
- 2 X Assault With A Weapon [CC 267 (A)];
- Uttering Threats [CC 264.1 (1)(A)].
The 17 year-old made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court this morning (April 27, 2023) at 9:30 a.m. GIBSON made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning (April 27, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.
Police investigation into this incident is still ongoing. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
